why use this product?

Clear Styrene

A favourite of the framing industry, clear styrene is an ideal substitute to glass, ideally suited for interior designs and glazing. Supplied in a 1.2mm thin grade the material can be fitted with ease and be used for cupboard protection and artwork/photo frames without becoming cumbersome.

HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)

High impact polystyrene or HIPS as it’s commonly referred to, is a light weight board built to withstand impact damage, up to seven times stronger than standard polystyrene. Flexible surface properties make HIPS perfect for fabricating and forming ideal for POP signs. Although not an in-house process at NE Plastics, HIPS is perfect for vacuum forming due to its thermoforming properties. Available in a black, white, mirror silver and mirror gold finish.

Applications

Applications for high impact polystyrene include, indoor cladding, POP displays, indoor signage, and banners. Mirror HIPS is often used for dance floors and in bars.

Benefits

Weathering
HIPS unless UV stabilised is intended for indoor applications, if used outside short term use is recommended in order to avoid potential discolouring.

Cutting

  • Sharp knife -easy to score and cut
  • CNC routing
  • Wall & beam saw for large scale cutting requirements

Flammability
Our stocked HIPS has been flame tested under the UL94 standard and achieved an HB rating.

Glues
Various Bostik glues have good adhesion with HIPS including Evo-Stik 613, Evo-Stik 3019, and Bostik 7452. Evo-StikExtru-Fix has excellent adhesive properties. Butt and lap joints and fixing to vertical surfaces can all be achieved with the application of these glues.

Printing
A range of printing methods are suitable for HIPS including screen, UV and flexography.

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is made up from a multitude of different substrates including styrene, rubber and acrylic.  It’s available in almost any colour, from a standard black or white finish to a more specific RAL type. Different textures and makeups are can also be achieved such as pinseal, matt and gloss.

Applications

ABS is suitable for various applications including suitcase shelves, interior fittings for amusement machines (coin slots), and for automotive trim components.

Useful Information

ABS is flammable when exposed to high temperatures, as it melts then boils.
ABS can be damaged by sunlight.
